IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING CATEGORY CHANGE REQUESTS
As you can imagine, Cycling BC has had a number of category change requests leading up the Westside Race. They have clarified exactly when an age category change can be administered with both, Wayne Pomario and Brett Stewert of the CCA.
"Master category riders could receive a temporary upgrade to the Elite category. In doing so, they are giving up their eligibility for a provincial Masters title and choosing to compete in a more challenging category.
In the reverse scenario, it is not appropriate for Elite category riders (who are Master aged) to receive what is essentially a downgrade to compete for a Masters title. These riders make a commitment to compete in the Elite category when they apply for their licence. They should remain in the Elite category."
From this communication, Cycling BC are unable to grant age category changes, except under special circumstances, to any Elite licenced rider looking for an age exception to Master for the Provincial Road Championships.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS
1. My licence indicates "Master" on it. Do I have to ride the "Master's"
category for Westside Classic?
Ans: Yes, you will have to race the Master Category corresponding to your age. Contact Cycling BC if you are unsure of what Master category you are (www.cycling.bc.ca).
2. I will enter the Westside Classic, but need some info to decide which Cat to race in. I am 59 years old and race Cat 4 in open races and weekly Crits, and sometimes I also race in the BC Masters series. Do the Masters A B C D all race together but compete in their separate 10 year age groups, or will it be like last years Yaletown GP, where we ended up in a masters race trying to race against Cat 2 30 year olds?
Ans. Masters will all race together, however, their results will be separated, so you will be placed in your category in the final results.
3. I was looking at your website and noticed that for the westside classic there is no Cat. 3 race year. Are the Cat. 3's racing with the Pro1/2 Men? If so will Cat. 3 racers wear numbers in the 300's to differenciate them from the other categories?
Ans. There is no Cat 3 race this year and, therefore, Cat 3 riders will race the Championship race or, if they are of Master's age, the appropriate master's category.
4. Will one day insurance be available on race day?
ANS. Yes or by contacting Cycling BC
Lap Distance: 13km Large Loop, 3.5km Short Loop
